How to Stay Young
We have a whole class discussing how to stay young and what Chiropractic has to do with slowing down the aging process. But, is it really possible to stay young? And what does that really mean? Most people would say they want to stay physically young, but not necessarily mentally or emotionally young. Experience helps us with our growth and development. So, what we really want is to slow down the physical breakdown of our physical bodies.
It is not feasible to keep your looks from your twenties well into your fifties, but there are a few critical areas that YOU can develop to help yourself to maintain some of that glow and energy. These tips may seem obvious to some, but the key is to make decisions everyday that move you closer to health. So, start slow and add changes on a regular basis to see great results.
Tip # 1 Eat less. And more often. Most people consistently eat more than their bodies need in a day. The calories that are left over are stored as fat. If your calorie consumption is balanced by the calorie usage, you will stay at a steady weight. If you consistently eat a few extra calories, every day, you will gain weight and contribute to diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and even cancer. Eat smart, start slow and add new vegetables and fruits into your diet. Don’t over do anything, even dieting, you should have a “cheat” day when you can eat things that aren’t as healthy, but you love. If you can cheat once a week, then the other six days will not seem so restrictive and it will be easier to stick to the new “lifestyle” diet. These changes you make should be slow changes that you can maintain throughout life.
Tip #2 Move, exercise, get out and do something physical. Choose something you like, that you can commit to for life. Even walking has Great benefits that become apparent after following a 3x/week 20 minute-plan. 1 hour a week can start you out on the road to reaping huge reward for your health. Mayo Clinic has research on walking. Have you ever seen an overweight competitive gymnast or swimmer? And those benefits follow those people for life. You get fit by doing work, not all at once and you can gradually build up to the strength, endurance and physique that you want.
These two tips, eating less and exercising more are the cornerstone for getting healthy and staying young. But, in order to experience the benefits, you have to start. One way to start is to visit our How to Stay Young class. It is a very popular class and teaches people what really happens to the body when a Chiropractor adjusts a patient. We have this class every week, and if you call the office, we can get you scheduled (no charge).
